Schedules: Foundation Skills

* Classes will be postponed on any stat holidays or the weekends of a stat holiday, and resume the following week.

Puppy Basics

Puppy Basics is for pups between 10 and 20 weeks of age as of the class start date and have had their first set of vaccinations. If your pup is older, please register them for Great Beginnings.

Puppy Basics class is a great way to build confidence, for you and your pup, while learning foundational skills. This is the time, while your pup is very young, to do a lot of foundation work so that they develop good habits. We’ll show you some fun exercises to do with your pup to build a positive and trusting relationship.

Puppy Basics helps your puppy learn and understand words such as sit, down, and stand. We start the foundation work for walking nicely on leash, coming when called, impulse control, calmness, boundary work and disengagement from distractions. Information on surviving puppyhood, such as: nipping, whining, barking, and toileting is included. You will also receive our Puppy Training Videos which include the exercises that are taught each week in class.

After they have completed this program, your pup will be ready to move onto Great Beginnings.

Great Beginnings

If your dog is between the ages of 5 months and 2 years, they are in their adolescent stage. This is when new & often times undesirable behaviours develop, much like human adolescents! They may start to ignore you, not listen, pull when out on walks, or act like you don't exist- especially in the presence of exciting distractions like squirrels, blowing leaves or other dogs!

Great Beginnings works on behaviours such as impulse control, calmness, disengagement from the environment, engagement with you, proximity (hanging out with you), focus, working in arousal (when they're excited or scared), being able to bring their arousal level down, and much more.

This program is also perfect for rescues of any age or dogs that have never attended a group class or have not been well socialized.

This course utilizes games-based concept training, which reshapes your dog's brain, so they learn to make better decisions. The exercises are fun and adaptable to the individual dog. We also share with you the science behind how and why the exercises work to produce real-life results.

After Great Beginnings you can move onto Level Up, Scent Level 1, Tricks Level 1, or Sports Prep Level 1.

NOTE: This program replaces Game On. If you have already taken Game On, you are ready for Level Up, Scent Level 1, Tricks Level 1 or Sports Prep Level 1.

PLEASE BE SURE TO SELECT THE CORRECT LOCATION. Click on the column titled LOCATION to sort the classes by location.

If you Select a class that is marked CLASS FULL, you will be put on a wait list.

Level Up

Now that you have completed Great Beginnings, your dog is ready to handle the challenges of an obedience class. This class was previously known as Family Dog. We have changed the name to reflect the significant changes that we've made to this program. It truly is a level up in their ability to learn and perform specific commands.

Obedience training requires your dog to be able to listen and respond to your instructions in a very distracting environment. If your goal is for your dog to achieve their Canine Good Neighbour or Dog Therapy Certificate, or to participate in Rally Obedience, Level Up is your next step.

This course covers basic obedience skills, including stays from various positions, heelwork, recall, working around distractions, not jumping up, leave it and more. It will prepare both you and your dog for the more vigorous exercises and challenges covered in our Life Skills program.

After Level Up you can move into Life Skills, Off Leash Freedom, Stress Free Walks, or Canine Freestyle.

PLEASE BE SURE TO SELECT THE CORRECT LOCATION. Click on the column titled LOCATION to sort the classes by location.

If you Select a class that is marked CLASS FULL, you will be put on a wait list.

Rescue Ready

As there are many unknowns and things to consider when adopting a rescue, more and more rescue organizations require those adopting a rescue to acquire 1 on 1 training within the first week of adopting their dog. This is where we can come to the rescue!

We offer a Rescue Ready 40 minute training session which can be done during the day at our Ajax location or virtually via Zoom. This training session covers Expectations, Safety, Potential Separation Anxiety, Socialization and includes Relationship Building Games. We also discuss specific concerns which may require additional training.

If you would like to set up a Rescue Ready training session, please email the office.

Prerequisite: A New Rescue

Course Fee: $90.00 (+ taxes)     Length: 40 minutes
