Rally is about teaching your dog to do various commands while remaining in heel position. Novice Level 1 works on the foundation skills needed to complete in Rally Obedience. But many people take this course just to improve their dog’s loose leash walking skills. One of the best things about Rally is that it keeps your dog constantly engaged with you. Some of the obedience skills they learn are pivots, moving into front, weaving through pylons, slow pace, fast pace, spiral right, spiral left, walk around, 270 turns and more. This class is great for all breeds of all ages. It's especially good for seniors as it exercises their brain and body. Classes are held each week on the same day and time that you sign up for. Each class is 45 minutes in length. Classes are not held on weekends with statutory holidays but will resume the following week. This class is only offered at our Ajax location. In level 2, we start to build courses, starting with sequencing a small number of stations and gradually building to a full course. Whether or not you plan to trial, this program will further improve your dog's loose leash walking, focus, flexibility and listening skills. Please do not register for this program if you have not take Novice Level 1 as we do not teach the station signs in this program. You are expected to already be proficient at them. The Canine Good Neighbour test is a 12-part evaluation used by CKC and other organizations, prior to dogs going into therapy work or to provide emotional support. This program will prepare you and your dog for each of the tests conducted by both CGN and Therapeutic Paws. This course consists of putting obedience skills into highly distracting exercises, including greeting "strangers" and other dogs politely, accepting grooming and examination, door etiquette and making sure your dog feels comfortable being out of your sight, and more. This is an Advanced class. Be sure your dog is ready before registering for this course. Your dog must be able to walk nicely on a loose leash, have a solid stay, not jump up, and not get excited when they see a stranger by rushing forward to greet them. We do not work on these skills in this class. They must also be able to do all of these behaviours without the use of food. If your dog is still doing any of these things, email the office and we’ll let you know what program you need before taking this one. If you have taken an Intermediate class elsewhere, we will require proof of completion. Prerequisite: Practical Living Intermediate or an Intermediate group class taken elsewhere.
