Home > Why Us?

...there is simply no
substitute for experience.
1. Founded in 1989, we believe we have the best training team. Most of our Instructors have been on our team for over 10 years and many of the Head Instructors have been with us for over 20 years. Combined, we have more experience than any other school in Ontario. We all have areas of expertise, so you get the best of the best. We work together to provide you with what you need at whatever stage of training you are in.

2. We love dogs. We love everything to do with dogs. Most of us are involved with dog sports or activities ourselves. We compete in Agility, Flyball, Scent, Rally or Competitive Obedience. Many of us travel with The SuperDogs or WoofJocks Canine All Stars. This means we are not only able to guide you towards your own goals but can make suggestions on what classes might be a good fit for your dog.

3. We do not allow any prong, choke or shock collars on our property. We are vocal about our beliefs. There is no reason at all to resort to using any of the equipment listed above. There is a wonderful sentence that applies. "When education runs out, frustration sets in". Do not resort to physical punishment with your dog, and please do not be convinced by any trainer that the products above do not hurt. Those types of products can lead to serious behavioural problems. Dogs are family. Would you use any of the above on a member of your family?

4. We offer a positive environment using only Positive Reward Based Training. This means we teach using motivational and respectful techniques. Positive does not mean permissive. However, remember that having a dog is supposed to be fun, so it is fine to laugh, joke and treat your dog while you are teaching them.

5. And yes, we use food. Oh, you can teach using fear and intimidation or by using a "do it or else" attitude. But this can result in behavioural issues down the road. Consider this - would you work for free? In most cases, probably not. We like to be rewarded (paid) for a good job. Using this same analogy, the food is the reward (or pay cheque) for our dog when they are learning the correct task such as sit, down, stay, etc. Rewarding our dog with treats makes the learning process easier and more fun.

6. We are closer than you think. We have 2 locations to choose from. 889 Westney Rd (2nd floor) in Ajax is 5 minutes south of the 401. The training space in the Beaches is on the 2nd floor of the Kingston Road United Church at 975 Kingston Rd. just west of Victoria Park Ave. Please note we cannot run classes at the church during June, July & August. Our Parliament location is now permanently closed.

It is a good idea to take a moment and read the Important Things to Know portion of our website. This is the best way to find information that pertains to our new safety protocols registration for classes.
